What is a Certified Nursing Assistant and what do they do?
A certified nursing assistant (CNA) is a non-licensed healthcare professional that is on the frontline of patient care. Certified nursing assistants are vital to the daily operations in hospitals, nursing care facilities, clinics, hospices, and home caregivers. A CNA works under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed vocation nurse (LVN). The main role of the certified nursing assistant is to provide basic care to the patients and help them with their daily activities that they might have trouble doing on their own such as bathing, getting dressed, and eating. Being the eyes and ears for patients and nurses is an important role for the CNA as well as their communication skills.
